(Er) Versteinert - genau wie das restliche Skelett
(It) Fossilizes - just like the rest of the skeleton
The (Er) is the (Gesicht), the facial features. The subject is missing from the sentence though,
like faces in these portraits. Absent, but still the main subject of the shoot.
As for the sentence, the absence
is where the viewer's attention clots.
Featuring portraits of friends and people met during the previous months, this work
attempted to create an eminently fictional world
that reminds of some old, damaged photos found after a long time - centuries one might say -
while implying current digital elaboration techniques.
This fossilized, claustrophobic
world looks directly to the viewer through its
main subject, that is, the absence of facial connotations. The friends I used to know
are flung in this ancient, alienating domain, a dying memory
numbly rehearsing the ancient ways in a blur of forgetfulness.
